Thomas Deweerdt - Director of Product Development

John LewisTom Deweerdt, Greentech Automotive's Director of Engineering & Product Development, is a proven automotive engineering leader with a passion for green technology development that exceeds performance, quality, and cost expectations. With more than 24 years experience in full life-cycle automobile product development and technical engineering management, Deweerdt's broad expertise includes hybrid vehicle development, powertrain integration, quality, research and development, as well as executive leadership.

Prior to joining GTA, Deweerdt was the Chief Engineer of Electrification & Hybrids for AVL Powertrain Inc. where he led the technical activity of multiple hybrid vehicle product development initiatives that included military and commercial applications. He enjoyed similar success with Navistar Inc. as the Director of Engineering for commercial and RV stripped chassis development where he achieved 100 percent on time launch of all major programs while reducing warranty costs by 80 percent. Deweerdt also served Daimler Chrysler Corporation in distinguished engineering leadership positions for over 18 years. In the roles of Engineering Director and Chief Engineer, his business unit established 41 new business opportunities and doubled revenue.

Deweerdt holds a Master of Science in Management degree from Walsh College of Business, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from Lawrence Technological University and significant coursework relative to a Master of Science in Automotive Engineering degree from Lawrence Technological University. He is the recipient of three US patent awards and is affiliated with several engineering organizations including the SAE, IEEE, American Wind Energy Association, and the Engineering Society of Detroit.
